What it’s all about…
Call me old fashioned, but my definition of ‘DJ’ goes back to the early days of radio.
By ‘early days’ I don’t mean Marconi, I mean the late 50s, the ’60s and ’70s. when
the term ‘DJ’ had less to do with turntables and tone arms than it did with celebrity
and the entertainment industry as a whole. In keeping with that definition, my ideas
have less to do with technology than with performance and communication with an
audience.
I don’t want to diminish the importance of technology. It is necessary to have that
knowledge as part of your skill set, but it should be like breathing; something essential
but mostly subconscious; you know it well enough that your mind is free to think more
about performance and creativity. I can teach you how to use a microphone effectively,
but my passion lies in fundamental philosophies of communication through the mic.
My interests are are wide and varied, but I will try to stay on topic. Reel me in if need be.
Thanks for your indulgence,
Keith
